This article explains PV, UV, IP, sessions, bounce rate and other common metrics
with their usage boundaries.
When to use
Use it when you start reading reports or need to align metric definitions across
the team.
Steps
-
On Overview, first locate PV, UV, IP, sessions and other core metrics.
Interface example. Actual console display may vary.
-
PV means page views and is useful for judging content exposure and page
popularity.
-
UV means unique visitors, while IP means unique network exits; they are
not interchangeable.
-
Sessions describe continuous visits, and bounce rate should be judged
together with page type.
Notes
-
Do not rely on one metric alone. Combine trends, sources and visited pages.
-
Metric changes show what happened; causes still require campaign, content or
traffic context.
